Traditional Vs. Online Mahjong

October 26th, 2011

Like all games, mah jongg started when groups of people sat down and decided to play with the matched tiles. This is usually done in celebrations, gatherings or special occasions. For the longest of time, mahjong is considered as part of the cultural tradition of most Chinese families.

Today however, one does not need to own a mahjong set or go to a friend’s place, or invite people over to play the game. The advent of the internet made it possible for anyone to challenge other people online for a game of mahjong. It becomes a pure gambling vice where a player tries everything to beat the others and win the prize money.

Some people say that it is nice to have the game available to play with others twenty-four-seven. However, a lot of those who love the game, especially the elders, find it much more enjoyable to play the game among friends. For them, mahjong’s popularity came from the fact that it is very enjoyable to play among those you know. In a sense, most games are enjoyable when played with friends, but if one really wants to spend his leisure time playing mahjong, online websites are always available any time of the day.
